How The Company Started

In 1986, at the age of 20, Terry Gormley started a promotional screen printing business, and it wasn't long before he had fashioned a brand of clothing called Powerhouse inspired by his Staffordshire terrier. Like many young entrepreneurs, the launching ground of Terry's business happened to be his parent's garage. Here his T-shirts were printed and then sold at flea markets around South Africa, followed by a mail-order system within a number of gyms.

How The Company Evolved

In 1994, Powerhouse began to supply Mr. Price with the brand exclusively, and enjoyed a parallel growth curve over many years. In 1996 Justin Mansfield and Nadeen Horwood joined the team and two years later Terry left the company in their hands and headed off to America in pursuit of international recognition for the brand. The company evolved and took on other products, no longer just running with the branded tees. Powerhouse established additional Sales divisions and started to expand and grow the business further by supplying other retail chains. Due to the strength of our creative team, it was an obvious move to continue with licensed brands and this has developed into one of the company's core assets. Creative designs together with strong partnerships with yarn, knitting and print suppliers have enabled Powerhouse to deliver innovative merchandise at competitive prices.
